The Albert Taylor Scholarship

As a leader in championing the cause of Africa, ATNS feels that the efforts made by Mr Albert Taylor are commendable and would like to assist him in uplifting areas requiring assistance on the African continent. It is within this framework that Air Traffic Navigation Services would like to introduce the Albert Taylor Scholarship.

The Albert Taylor Scholarship has been established in honour of Mr Albert Taylor who has had a profound contribution to the aviation industry in Africa. Mr Albert Taylor had a long association with ATNS Aviation Training Academy and served for many years as an international marketing manager. The fund for the Albert Taylor Scholarship is administered by ATNS Aviation Training Academy.

CANSO to Create an African Office

CANSOAfricaOfficeCANSO, the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation, has announced plans to create an Africa Office supported by ATNS, the Air Navigation Service Provider for South Africa.

At the CANSO ATM Summit in Bangkok, CANSO Director General Graham Lake and CEO of ATNS Patrick Dlamini signed an MOU to establish a Project Liaison Office based at ATNS’ Headquarters.

The office will provide a regional focus for air navigation service providers, airports and airlines to work together to transform the performance of air traffic management in Africa.

ATNS will provide a Project Liaison Officer who will work to expand CANSO’s Membership and develop key programmes and initiatives. This will involve close collaboration with CANSO’s current African Members: NANSC Egypt, CAA Uganda, NAMA Nigeria, and OACA Tunisia. The office will also seek to enhance coordination with other international aviation organisations such as ICAO, IATA and ACI.

CANSO Director General Graham Lake said: “Air transport in Africa is forecast to grow by nearly 6% over the next 20 years. This presents a number of challenges for a continent already facing complex and diverse aviation challenges.

As the global association for air traffic management, CANSO has a lot to offer aviation in Africa. We bring together the world’s leading experts to exchange knowledge, information and best practice. Our new Project Liaison Office will help bring these experts to Africa and I applaud ATNS for working with us to spearhead the initiative.”

During the signing ceremony Graham Lake also announced CANSO’s intention to organise a seminar focused on safety and operations in Africa, and to hold CANSO’s next annual global ATM safety conference in the region in November 2012.
