AERONAUTICAL DOCUMENTATION

Overview

ATNS AIS has the operational and technical capability to provide a professional consultancy and production service in the field of Aeronautical Documentation as per ICAO Annex 15 and Document 8126.

Abilities

The Documentation section has the infrastructure to provide complete Integrated Aeronautical Information Packages (IAIP) to the ICAO Standard, as specified in the ICAO Annex 15 and, to the customer’s requirements i.e. Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP). AIP Amendments, AIP Supplements, Aeronautical Information Circulars(AIC), NOTAM Checklist and monthly Summaries.

AIP is compiled in ICAO three parts format: General (GEN), En-route (ENR) and Aerodromes (AD). All documents are produced in A4 print master size, with a layout which will accommodate reduction to A5 format without further text manipulation. AIS can provide print master copies to the customer for own printing, packaging and delivery of the printed product to the customer for distribution. If required, ATNS can arrange for the supply of IAIP binders to the customer’s specifications.

The AIS Documentation Section generally provides consultative services regarding the AIP Amendment and Supplement, AIC’s including NOTAM Checklist and Monthly Summaries.

Achievements

Electronic Documentation System, developed for ATNS AIS by Waymark, South Africa, is currently utilized to manage the development and updating of aeronautical data (AIP, AIP Supplements, AIC’s ) for ATNS clients. Some of the systems functionalities are:

  •  Data based controlled access. Each user has to log into the system as an administrator, Specialist, DATA Capturer and Quality Assurer.
  • Documents are created and imported or checked into the System for archiving with relevant versions.
  • New or Source Documents are imported into the System as Text, Fax, e-mail, NOTAM etc as Input and for subsequent use in updating, amending and creating any of the elements for Integrated Aeronautical Information Package (IAIP).
  • The Administrator creates Working Folder and Workflows in order to update and amend relevant Documents. Both Source and Current Document versions are linked to these Workflows. Such working Folders or Workflows are then assigned to Documentation Specialist for analysis and forwarding to Data Capturers, with clear instructions for actual editing.
  • Data Capturers update selected Documents with Source Documents and per instructions and then return the amended Documents back to Specialist for initial Quality Assurance. The Documents will be returned to Data Capturer if Specialist is not happy or otherwise they are forwarded for further Quality Assurance.
  • Quality Assurer will return Documents back to Specialist if errors are detected or otherwise forwarded to Administrator for final Approval, Archiving and automatic Publication to Intranet on the planned Effective Date or AIRAC.
  • E-mail messages are automatically created to notify all concerned when workflows are passed from one Specialist to another until the cycle is completed.
