Captain Mpho Mamashela: Chairman and member of Human Resource Committee

Mpho Mamashela is a qualified aviation executive. He studied and trained for his Commercial Pilots license & flight operations management. He has worked for the Lesotho Airways as a pilot, and also at Anglo American Corporation/De Beers as Flight operations manager.

He was appointed as a member of ICAO flight crew licensing panel to represent Africa. He joined South African Airways in 1994 where he initiated Vulindlela -an aviation career awareness program for the previously disadvantaged groups of South Africa.  He also established South African Airways' cadet pilot training programme. Mamashela did his airline management training with Henley University (UK).

Mr. Mamashela is a senior captain/pilot for South African Airways on the Airbus A340 and he also heads the airline's 2010 office. He is a member of 2010 Aviation Sub-Sector Task Team involved in the country's aviation preparations to meet the demands of the World Cup in 2010.

Peter Marais: Acting CEO

Peter is a graduate electronics engineer and registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa. He was previously the principal radar engineer at the National Department of Transport, engineering manager for ATNS, general manager technical services for ATNS and executive manager training for ATNS.

He is the chairperson of the South African Development Community's upper airspace control centre steering committee and represents ATNS in regional and international bodies responsible for planning communication, navigation and surveillance infrastructure in the region. Most recently he chaired the cns committee of the ICAO 11th Air Navigation Conference.

He has completed the UNISA Business School's advanced executive management programme.

Ms. Hlengiwe Makhathini: Chairman of the Audit & Risk Committee and member of Procurement Committee

Ms. Makhathini is a qualified Chartered Accountant of South Africa. She holds a B Com Accounting and B Com Honours Accounting from the University of Natal. She is currently working as a Senior Manager at the National Empowerment Fund.

Prior to joining the National Empowerment Fund she worked for Standard Bank as a Management Accountant.  Ms. Makhathini worked as an articles clerk at Investec Bank Limited where she gained a lot of knowledge and experience in the finance and banking industry.

Monhla Hlahla: Member of the Audit and Risk Committee

Monhla Hlahla was appointed MD at Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) in 2001. She also holds non-executive director positions at the Air Traffic and Navigation Services, Absa Bank and the Industrial Development Corporation.

Monhla completed a BA honours (economics) and a master's (urban and regional planning) in the United States. In 1994, she joined the Development Bank of Southern Africa and was seconded to the Municipal Infrastructure Investment Unit as CEO. Following her achievements with the bank, she joined Old Mutual Employee Benefits as a regional general manager, until she was appointed MD of ACSA.

She currently serves on the Airports Council International (ACI) world governing body. In 2005 she was awarded: Businesswoman's Association's Businesswoman of the Year, Black Business Quarterly Business Woman of the Year, Impumelelo South Africa's Top Empowerment Companies Businesswoman of the Year, and International Quality and Productivity Centre, Most Outstanding Woman Manager in a State-Owned Enterprise.

Ms. June Crawford: Member of  the Audit Risk Committee and Procurement Committee

June Crawford was the Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Airline Representatives of South Africa from 2005 to 2008.  This association represents international and regional airlines operating to South Africa.  Prior to that, she spent 30 years with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in various positions culminating in that of Director Ground Services Southern Africa.  She is currently a Director of Aviation Co-ordination Services (Pty) Ltd and a member of the Institute of Directors.

Mr. Arthur Bradshaw: Member of the Audit & Risk Committee and Procurement Committee

He is a qualified Chief Air Traffic Controller; he also obtained a Private Pilots Licence. He was previously the first Approach Standards Officer, Director: Air Traffic Services, Head of Aeronautical Search and Rescue Operations, Divisional Manager: Air Traffic Services (ATNS).

He was also appointed to the Minister of Transports Committee tasked to propose the transport strategy into the future. (Moving South Africa). Mr. Bradshaw was responsible for the reconstruction of specific regulations governing ATS and, the enactment of aeronautical SAR.

He was appointed to the ICAO ATM Concept Panel in 1998. Later appointed as chair of the panel renamed ATMRPP (ATM Requirements and Performance Panel).

He was a General (Executive) Manager Air Traffic Management (Planning and Standards) at ATNS, and also Head of Aeronautical Search and Rescue Operations until 2005 when he retired. He was awarded: CANSO award, the ICAO Laurel award, the South African Minister of Transports' award and the ATNS Chairman's award.

Currently consults the ATM Community under the banner of Air Traffic Management System Advisors.

Dr. Kamal Parker: Chairman of the Procurement Committee and a member of Human Resources Committee

Dr. Kamal Parker is an ECSA registered Professional Aerospace Engineer, BSc, MSc Mechanical Engineering (UCT), MBA (RAU). He has worked as a senior engineer at Denel Aerospace Systems. He is a Nelson Mandela Fellowship holder with a PhD Aerospace Engineering (Melbourne, Australia). Post doctoral fellowships (CALTECH, USA and NUS, Singapore).

He was also a lecturer at Monash University, Australia. Dr. Parker was Program Manager for the Advanced Manufacturing Program of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and tasked to develop the local aerospace industry development where he developed significant experience and knowledge of the local aerospace community (including industry, academia, research and labour). Dr. Parker served on the National Aerospace Centre of Excellence.

He is currently the executive director of EQSTRA manufacturing, an advisor to the DST and in particular on the EU: SA aerospace programs and aerospace evaluation committees, serves on the council of the Aeronautical Society of South Africa as well as the technical committee of the DTI National Space Agency and also serves on the board of Imperial FLEXI FLEET.

Ms. Mantuka Maisela: Chairman of Human Resources Committee and member of Procurement Committee

Mantuka Maisela has 30 years of experience as a Human Resources Practitioner.  She has held various management positions at strategic level - Vice President Human Capital at PETRO SA, Group Human Resources Director at Murray & Roberts Limited and Human Resources Director at RUC Mining a division of Murray & Roberts.  She brings an extensive experience at both strategic and operational level. 

Ms. Maisela holds a Masters Degree (Human Resources), a post graduate diploma (Human Resources) from the University of Witwatersrand.  She also holds a production management diploma from Japan and an executive development qualification from Wharton Business School (University of Pennsylvania).  Her passion is in human resources development.

Besides serving on the ATNS board, Mantuka sits on the Eskom pension and provident fund and National Parks boards and she chairs the Human Capital Committees on all three boards.

Dr. Jabulani Mzaliya : Member of Human Resources Committee

Dr. Jabulani Mzaliya is Deputy Director-General for Transport Policy and Economic Regulation in the Department of Transport.  He previously worked for the Department of Public Enterprises as Head of Policy and Strategy. He was also Special Adviser for Traditional and Religious Affairs in the former Deputy President's Office.

He taught English and History at Margot Fonteyn High School and also at the Klaarwater Adult Education Centre.  For three years he was attached to the Sached Trust College. He also taught Politics at the University of Zululand (Durban-Umlazi Campus) and was also a Political Analyst for Ukhozi Radio and a columnist for UMafrika.

He was part of the South African Peace Facilitation Team in the Great Lakes region and represented the Department of Transport in various international forums. He has a Secondary Teachers Diploma from the Indumiso College, a Junior Degree from UNISA, a post- graduate degree and a Masters from the University of Durban Westville and a Doctorate in Politics from the University of Zululand.
